Europe’s first International Dark Sky Reserve

In 2011 Exmoor was designated as an International Dark Sky Reserve by Dark Sky International (formerly International Dark Sky Association).

Our dark skies are some of the best in the UK. We have minimal light pollution and on a cloudless night you can see literally thousands of stars and astronomical sights such as the Milky Way with the naked eye.

Take the time to visit Exmoor during our popular annual Dark Skies Festival, which runs every autumn. Hosted by Exmoor National Park Authority, with events organised by other businesses and organisations that are suitable for families, amateur astronomers and everyone who feels inspired by the outdoors and the night. Visit the Festival website for more details (link to https://www.exmoor-nationalpark.gov.uk/enjoying/stargazing)

Dark skies stargazing events are also run year-round by the following accredited businesses. Please check their websites or contact them direct to find out about their latest events. The first two businesses also offer bespoke stargazing experiences.
